History of the Nursing Department

The Department of Nursing admitted its first class of freshman students in 1981.  Linda Kramer was the Program Director.  The first Nursing Instructor employed was Jan Edelstein.   She along with Norma Divine who was employed during the second semester taught the first class of students.  Two additional faculty were employed the following year to teach the students during their sophomore year in the program.  The first nursing class graduated in 1983.  Initial accreditation from the National League for Nursing occurred in 1984.  The program has maintained continuous, full accreditation since that time.

Graduates from the CASC nursing program readily find employment in health care locally and in surrounding communities of western Arkansas.  These agencies depend upon the superior performance of the graduates and recruit heavily from the nursing program to meet their nursing needs.
